Step 1
Determine where the property line is located. You don't want to start a path on your neighbor's property. Mark off the property line and keep your walking path within your property boundaries.
-
Step 2
Clean large debris and obstacles out of the area. Wear a long sleeve shirt, pants, socks, and shoes. Protect yourself from added frustration caused by snakes, ticks, and other unforeseen obstructions. Move the debris and logs off the path.
-
Step 3
Cut the grass. This can be done in two ways. If you don't want grass on the path, kill off the grass and then cut it down. If you want grass on the walking path, reposition the lawn mower blades to a higher setting. Cut the grass and then wait a week and cut it at one setting lower. Continue to wait one week between cutting and continue to lower the blades until you reach your chosen grass level.
-
Step 4
Cut the grass regularly to keep the grass low enough on your path or walk on the walking path regularly to keep the grass low.
-
Step 5
Place ground covering on a grassless path. If you don't want a grass path, cover the path with oyster shells, nut shells, gravel, or other ground covering. If you don't want grass growing through, layer the ground with a plastic barrier before you add the ground covering.
