Step 1
Boil a large pot of red potatoes at the beginning of the week. Drain them and place them, unpeeled, in a large bowl. These potatoes can be easily peeled and fried for an accompaniment to any meal. Leave the peeling on and chop them, then re-heat in the microwave oven for a quick side dish to any meat.
-
Step 2
Cook a larger quantity of food when making a meal. For example, if you are roasting a chicken, roast two chickens. De-bone the extra roasted chicken and place in a zip top bag in your freezer. The cooking time is the same, but you now have an extra chicken already roasted to make more meals in a hurry.

Step 3
Buy healthy foods that are quick to prepare. Stock your freezer with frozen vegetables, meatballs, boneless chicken breasts, polish sausage and ready to bake bread or rolls. Stock your freezer with quick desserts and side dishes for a quick kitchen shortcut. Boneless chicken breasts can be prepared quickly in many ways. Polish sausage or kielbasa can be placed in boiling water right from the freezer for a quick meal.

Step 4
Use your microwave to cook vegetables. The microwave is a wonderful kitchen shortcut for many foods, but it does vegetables especially well. Color, flavor and vitamins are retained when cooked in the microwave and the time is cut in half.
-
Step 5
Cook corn on the cob without shucking it. Bring a pot of water to boil and place the corn in the water. Corn is done when you can smell it. The husks and silk will just slide off the corn and by leaving the husks on, the flavor of the corn is retained.
-
Step 6
Buy pre-cut bags of salad and coleslaw for a great kitchen shortcut. The slaw mix can be used for coleslaw, but it can also be cooked and served as a side dish with your meal.

Step 7
Invest in a good quality crockpot and an old-fashioned pressure cooker. The crockpot is wonderful to cook soups or chili while you are working. Pressure cookers are making a comeback, and are wonderful time savers for your kitchen. A pressure cooker can slash cooking time, but it also tenderizes meat at the same time.
