Use a potato threader to make interesting side dishes or even an ingredient in a main dish. The threader allows you to cut long thin ribbons of potato to use in a variety of recipes. The threader also works with fruits and vegetables for garnish, a platter or deserts.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Peel and wash the potato. Stick one end of the potato in the prongs provided to hold it in place in the threader.

  2. Step 2

Turn the handle to make the potato go around and graze the blade on the threader.

  3. Step 3

Keep turning the handle until the entire potato is cut into long strings of potato threads. Guide the potato coming out of the threader with your free hand onto a plate or platter.

  4. Step 4

Put potato threads into cold water right away to keep them from loosing color and turning brown.

  5. Step 5

Use potato threads to top recipes, deep fry them for garnishes or use them raw as decoration on vegetable platters.

Tips & Warnings
  • Most potato threaders can slice any hard fruits and vegetables such as apples, cucumbers, zucchini or carrots.
  • Some threaders have adjustable blades to get different thickness of threads.
  • Save time and don't peel the potato. Just throw the first section of threads with the peels on them away.
  • Be careful not to get fingers or hands too close to the threaders blades. They are extremely sharp.
