How to Make a Bug Hotel
Give your child a place to let his critter friends rest, yet keep your house safe from spiders, bugs and worms. This is a simple craft. Most of the supplies will come right from your craft closet or bucket. Put your little bug collector to work making and decorating a bug hotel for all of his favorite creepy, crawly friends.
Things You'll Need
- Oatmeal container
- Screen material
- Paint
- Markers
- Paper
- Glue
- Craft knife
- Scissors
- Paint brushes

Gather all the craft supplies. Set up an area that will be kid craft friendly.

Decorate the outside of the oatmeal container with paint and markers. Write the bug hotel rules on a small piece of paper and paste it to the container.

Draw windows on the hotel with paper. Have an adult cut the windows out with a craft knife.

Paint a door on the house and have an adult cut it out, leaving one side attached. Leave a 1/4-inch border beneath the door.

Line the inside of the container with the screen material. Overlap the openings by 1 inch. Trim the excess screening from the top of the container.

Fill the hotel with plants, flowers, grass and a container of water. Put bugs in the hotel and put the lid on.

Tips & Warnings
Use a plastic bottle cap to hold water.
Take notice of what the bugs are eating and add those plants to the hotel.
Keep the bug hotel outside just in case there is a critter that checks out early.
Only adults should use craft knives; they are very sharp.
