Instructions

    • 1

Gather all the craft supplies. Set up an area that will be kid craft friendly.

    • 2

Decorate the outside of the oatmeal container with paint and markers. Write the bug hotel rules on a small piece of paper and paste it to the container.

    • 3

Draw windows on the hotel with paper. Have an adult cut the windows out with a craft knife.

    • 4

Paint a door on the house and have an adult cut it out, leaving one side attached. Leave a 1/4-inch border beneath the door.

    • 5

Line the inside of the container with the screen material. Overlap the openings by 1 inch. Trim the excess screening from the top of the container.

    • 6

Fill the hotel with plants, flowers, grass and a container of water. Put bugs in the hotel and put the lid on.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a plastic bottle cap to hold water.

  • Take notice of what the bugs are eating and add those plants to the hotel.

  • Keep the bug hotel outside just in case there is a critter that checks out early.

  • Only adults should use craft knives; they are very sharp.
