Fingerprint scanners have become popular in high security workplaces, day care centers and schools. They can be used when many different people need secure access. You can install a scanner by following these steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Place the scanner at the entrance to your building. The unit is typically a small box that is set on a tabletop. You will need good signage to bring attention to the device.
Step2
Build your database of acceptable people whom you want to give access or that you need to identify before allow entry. Every new employee or client must register their fingerprint in your system before they can be recognized.
Step3
Output the scanned results and run the program to a computer monitor, which can be checked regularly. The technology is not perfected and you will find errors reported regularly. Plan to deal with errors as they arise. Appoint one person to monitor the scans.
Step4
Run the software that comes with your new systems before plugging in the hardware. You will need to have all systems prepared to accept the new hardware once it is plugged in. Some will require a simple USB port, while others require a card reader to be inserted into the PC. Either way, you will need to place the scanner within reach of a computer or get extensions to run to the nearest laptop or PC.
