Imagine paying half the price for a DVD you want. You don't need to watch sale ads, stand in line or dig through a clearance bin. Used DVD's are easy to find online and offline. Follow these steps before making your purchase.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Find a place that sells used original DVDs. Ask whether the store offers a satisfaction guarantee. Check your local record store or go online to stores such as Amazon and eBay to buy a used DVD. Make sure that they are the original DVDs and not just a copy of the DVD. Buying copies of DVDs is illegal. A reputable store or seller will guarantee that the DVD will arrive in good condition.
Step2
Check to make sure that you have the right version of the DVD. Many DVDs are released in different versions, including unrated versions or a director's cut. Make sure that you are purchasing the DVD that you want.
Step3
Make sure that the DVD is included in the case and that it comes with all of the appropriate booklets and any other promotional materials if you want them. The case may be damaged or scratched, but DVD may be intact.
Step4
Check the DVD for scratches and damages. You can do this by simply looking at the disc or playing the DVD to make sure that it works. If you are purchasing somewhere where you can't test the DVD, make sure that you can return the DVD if it is scratched or damaged.
Step5
Pay about half the retail price for a DVD that is in good condition and is a new release or very popular. The price will go down based on condition and how old the movie is, unless it is a rare movie or collectible.

Tips & Warnings

  • Check with the store to see if they trade used DVDs. You will often get a better deal if you trade in an old DVD.
