How to Impress a Professor

Most college and graduate students want to impress their professors. Follow these steps so you can impress your teacher by being a respectful and professional student.

Instructions

    • 1

Come to class on a regular basis If you happen to miss a day, call or email your professor apologizing and inquiring about what you need to do to make up the work or get the notes from that day.

    • 2

Arrive on time to class. By the time the professor enters the room you should have your notebook and pencil out and be ready to start learning.

    • 3

Pay attention during class. This includes attentively listening to your professor during lectures and participating in class activities and discussions.

    • 4

Turn in all assignments on time and make sure they are fully completed. Proofread all papers to ensure you don't have any careless mistakes. Don't ask for deadline extensions or special consideration if you missed a test or assignment.

    • 5

Talk with your professor during his or her office hours or make an appointment for extra help, if necessary. You can talk with your professor if you have questions. But, you should also visit with your professor on your progress with the course.

    • 6

Read anything that you teacher assigns whether it be textbook pages or handouts.

    • 7

Ask for letters of recommendation only if you can give your professor plenty of time to complete them and if you can provide information about yourself, such as a resume, that they can use to complete the letter of recommendation.

Tips & Warnings

  • Most students find it easier to pay attention during class by sitting near the front of the classroom.
