Lake Ray Roberts is located a short distance north of Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas. Much of the over 29,000 acres is devoted to a Texas state park and features hiking trails, fishing, camping and canoeing. Plan a trip to Lake Ray Roberts to water-ski with these steps.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Locate Lake Ray Roberts on a map of Texas. It's north of Dallas-Forth Worth and just past Denton off Interstate 35. Contact the state park for access information. The Isle du Bois Unit phone number is 940-686-2148; the Johnson Branch Unit is 940-637-2294.

  2. Step 2

Notice there are several entrance points to Lake Ray Roberts. It's divided into 2 main state park areas called Isle du Bois and Johnson Branch. The satellite parks are called Sanger, Elm Fork, Pond Creek, Pecan Creek, Buck Creek and Jordan Unit.

  3. Step 3

Select the Sanger Branch as a place to water-ski. It gets its name from the town of Sanger, located right off Interstate 35. This area is not far once you leave the highway.

  4. Step 4

Use the Lake Ray Roberts Marina or state park boat launch to water-ski at the Sanger Branch.

  5. Step 5

Locate the Johnson Branch of Lake Ray Roberts State Park on the northern edge of the area. The entrance is off FM 3002, reached by taking the East Lone Oak exit from Interstate 35.

  6. Step 6

Water-ski in the Johnson Branch using one of the many available boat ramps. Phone ahead to the main marina to book a private launch slip. Lake Ray Roberts is large, and there are many isolated areas for camping, canoeing and wildlife. Stick to the main boat launches for water-skiing.
