Having a great ATV and 4x4 truck is cool. Not only can it go off-road, but it can become a statement. However, you should take some steps to make certain your 4x4 truck or ATV remains safe. Here are some tips to remember.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Add more storage to your vehicle in the form of customized armrest containers, truck cab organizers for your 4x4 truck or a cab pack that slides beneath the seat. Secure the back of your 4x4 truck by adding a tonneau cover or a locked box.

  2. Step 2

Put snow chains on your 4x4 truck or ATV tires if you intend to go off-road in the winter. The chains will give you added grip and control.

  3. Step 3

Invest in a winch and tow strap for both your 4x4 truck or ATV. If you intend to do some serious off-roading, you won't want to get stuck out in the wilderness with no way to extract yourself from deep mud or puddles.

  4. Step 4

Get a GPS for your ATV or 4x4 truck. That way you'll find your way home no matter how deep you go into the woods. Make sure you also have a fully charged cell phone with you.

  5. Step 5

Consider getting a CB radio for your 4x4 or ATV. Since you can't always rely on the coverage offered by your cell phone carrier, having a CB radio ensures you can always reach someone should you need to.

  6. Step 6

Decide what terrain you want to drive on with your ATV or 4x4 and buy tires appropriate for it. The right tire can give you better clearance and traction.

  7. Step 7

Customize your 4x4 or ATV with a suspension kit. By adding a lift kit, you increase the clearance still further while adding to the smoothness of the ride.

  8. Step 8

Upgrade the brakes on your 4x4 or ATV. Since you'll be going over varied terrain and will stop in precarious situations, having your brakes fail is the last think you want.
