How to Decoupage a Flower Pot
Clay pots have so many uses and are a terrific medium for crafts. This decoupage flower pot project is simple and fun. There are many options. Depending on your decor, you can use colored tissue paper, sunflower seed packets, stamps, magazine cut outs or postcards. Really, anything made of paper is acceptable. It's a chance to express your creativity.
Things You'll Need
- Terra-cotta pot
- Decoupage medium
- Scissors
- Seed packets, tissue paper, or other paper
- Foam brush

Choose a decoupage medium. To make your own, mix white craft glue with water until it's a thin solution. It should be white, not clear in color. If you prefer, buy a ready-made decoupage medium. It's available at craft and discount stores.

Cut paper into one inch squares. If using sunflower packets, empty seeds and save for later.

Paint a thick layer of decoupage medium on the outside of the pot with the foam brush. Press paper squares to the surface, covering the entire pot. If using tissue paper, be careful not to rip it. Allow surface to almost dry.

Spread a layer of decoupage medium over the top of the paper squares. Once it's tacky and almost dry, repeat. Allow to dry. If you're not using sunflower packets, your decoupage pot is finished.

Attach sunflower seeds, if you choose. Arrange them like flower petals, using the decoupage medium like glue. When dry, give entire pot a final coat of decoupage medium. Allow to dry.
