Faux surfaces and textures have been used for centuries to create works of art. You can create custom surfaces such as faux agates with just a few simple ingredients and a little time. So if you want to make some exciting jewelry pieces, learn how to make faux agates with polymer clay.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Black polymer clay
  • Translucent polymer clay
  • Roller
  • Pasta machine
  • Waxed paper
  • Large brush
  • Sparkling copper powder
  1. Step 1

Create the agate specks. Chop a small block of black polymer clay as finely as you can. This will eventually be the flecks of black in your faux agate.

  2. Step 2

Roll out the translucent polymer clay, using a #4 on your pasta machine. Lay out the thin sheet on some wax paper, and then sprinkle the finely chopped black clay across the translucent sheet after rolling it out.

  3. Step 3

Load your brush with the copper powder and apply it over the top of the clay. You don't want a solid color, so put on enough to tint the clay without overloading it.

  4. Step 4

Roll it all out. Apply another sheet of waxed paper to the top of your clay. Use your roller to combine the powder and clay together. Remove the wax paper, and then tightly roll the clay into a tube.

  5. Step 5

Finish the pieces. You can then cut or finish the clay to fit your project or jewelry piece.
