Fruit is a colorful, unexpected way to liven up an artificial floral arrangement. Using Styrofoam forms, floral wire and silk flowers, you can create custom-made centerpieces for weddings, holidays and other celebrations that are exactly to your taste. Here are some great tips to include fruit in faux floral arrangements.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide on the overall shape that you want. You can create a natural-looking arrangement, or you may wish to go with a more structured, topiary-like look. Once you make this decision, you can choose Styrofoam forms that will act as the base of your arrangement.

  2. Step 2

Purchase your silk flowers and fruit. You can use either fresh fruit, which will have to be replaced frequently, or faux Styrofoam-based fruit. Plastic fruit can be used if you're going for a simpler look, but is harder to support with floral wire. Gather the rest of your supplies including the container you wish to use, floral foam, floral tape and wire.

  3. Step 3

Determine whether you'd like to change the look of the fruit you've purchased. If you want a more natural look, leave it as it is. For a more decorative look you can silver-leaf it, roll it in glitter, or spray-paint it.

  4. Step 4

Anchor the floral foam in your container with hot glue.

  5. Step 5

Begin adding silk flower stems to establish the shape of your design. If you're using a topiary form, cone, or other geometric shape and simply attaching fruit to it, skip this step.

  6. Step 6

Cut pieces of floral wire that are long enough to anchor into the floral foam, support the fruit and elevate it to the height you desire. Use a heavy gauge floral wire to support fresh fruit or larger pieces of faux fruit. Some fruit is too heavy to support with floral wire and will need to rest at the base of the arrangement, such as apples and pears.

  7. Step 7

Pierce the fruit with one end of the floral wire and stick the other end into the floral foam as desired. You can play around with the results, but keep in mind that too many holes in the floral foam will affect the sturdiness of your arrangement.
