A dinghy is a unique and useful type of small boat. Some dinghies are used strictly as a lifeboat and stored on large yachts. Others are used as small boats for maneuvering around boat docks or just to have fun. Some dinghies are inflatable type rafts and others may be a small, but more solid type of craft. Therefore, part of knowing how to buy a dinghy depends on how it will be used.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Contact the local boating stores in your area. Most large marine suppliers should have a selection of dinghies in their stock. The sales person can even help you in selecting the most appropriate dinghy for your needs.

  2. Step 2

Go to boat shows that are in larger cities around the country several times a year. Boating manufacturers and suppliers have booths with information, dinghies to sit in and sales persons on site, in the event you are ready to buy.

  3. Step 3

Check with local marinas for postings on dinghies for sale. Some of these may be used boats, but may be just what you are looking for at a bargain price.

  4. Step 4

Read the classified ads in the newspaper in your area. Many boats and dinghies are advertised every week.

  5. Step 5

Browse the Internet for online auctions. There are all types of dinghies on these sites. Be sure to get all the details including shipping arrangements before you consider making a bid.

  6. Step 6

Purchase a marine trade newspaper. These should be available at boating and marine supply retailers. Sometimes these are even free. This is a great source for locating specific type items like dinghies.

  7. Step 7

Visit a newsstand or bookstore for boating magazines or marine supplier magazines. These will have advertisements throughout the magazine and references listed in the back for ordering dinghies or information about them.
