Step 1
Research the rules and regulations of the country you are visiting. Know if you will have to pay any taxes or customs duties when you bring in a computer.

Carry your laptop on the airplane in a strong padded carry bag which will keep it safe from sudden jerks or falls. Pack a desktop for the luggage compartment of the airplane. Wrap the computer in a thick layer of bubble wrap. Place it in a cardboard box and seal the top securely.

Arrange to have the desktop placed in the cargo section of the airline if possible. Save the receipt and show it to the customs department of the foreign country to retrieve your item. Be prepared to give any required duty fees.

Take a 220 to 240 voltage converter or an adaptor on your trip. U.S. manufactured computers run on 110 to 220 voltage and sudden fluctuations can damage the internal parts of your computer.

Bring the voltage stabilizer, connectors, laptop battery and wireless Internet cards in your carry on bag. These help to stabilize the voltage difference that may arise in a foreign country that prevent the computer from working.
