Step 1
Run an online vehicle history report on the RV. All you'll need is its VIN. You should find out how many miles and accidents it has been in.
-
Step 2
Read the classified ads and RV trade magazines. Find out how much people are selling similar vehicles for, and you should find out if the dealer's price is fair.
-
Step 3
Inspect the RV for any defects or problems the dealer won't tell you about. Getting an experienced RV mechanic to do this will likely save you thousands in the long run.
-
Step 4
Make the dealer apply any rebates on the RV when purchased. One of the biggest dealer scams is saying you'll get a manufacturer rebate in 6 weeks, then later telling you the rebate fell through.
-
Step 5
Never give a dealer your driver license or Social Security number. This is often used to trap you in the store if negotiations break down. Once you're ready to purchase, showing them your license and insurance should be enough.
