If your collection has grown too large or you simply want to sell off a Remington gun or two, you must be careful that you sell your Remington legally. It is best to sell your gun to someone you know or to a gun shop. Read on to learn how to sell a Remington.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide on a price for your Remington. New Remington rifles and shotguns range greatly in price. Find out the comparable value of a new gun. Lower the cost if you have ever had any firing or maintenance difficulties, it's very old, but not antique or is damaged in anyway.

  2. Step 2

Go to a local gun shop with the gun and buyer. This is the best way to ensure that the gun is sold to a person who can legally buy a gun.

  3. Step 3

Have the gun shop run a background check, at your expense. Ask the clerk to hold the gun for the required waiting period.

  4. Step 4

Come back when the waiting period is over and have the clerk write up a bill of sale. Pay the gun shop a nominal fee for their services. The gun shop can also help you with re-registering the gun under the buyer's name.

  5. Step 5

Get a copy of the bill of sale. Keep the signed copy of the receipt in a secure place.

Tips & Warnings
  • Talk with friends and relatives. Find a buyer that can be vouched for by a close acquaintance. If you sell a gun to a person who's going to resell it or use it illegally, you can be held liable.
  • All new firearms must be sold by a licensed dealer, but selling a used gun is perfectly legal. Contact the local law enforcement to inquire about having a background check completed.
  • You could be prosecuted if the gun is used illegally and you acted negligent during the sale of your Remington.
