Collecting Disney souvenirs, known as Disneyana, is a hobby that is full of fun for you or for your whole family. Whether you fill your collection with a memorable childhood character, such as vintage or current Mickey Mouse memorabilia, or only collect a specific Disney item such as plates or stamps, there are many avenues for you to explore while adding to your collection. Read on to learn how to collect Disney souvenirs.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide what type of Disney souvenir you would like to collect. Many Disneyana collectors choose the items to add to their collections by character, movie, specific interest or era. Other collectors choose to vary their Disney souvenir collection by simply collecting anything Disney that appeals to them, giving them an eclectic mix of Disney souvenirs.

  2. Step 2

Learn about the different items that are available in your specific area of Disney souvenirs.

  3. Step 3

Purchase a Disneyana price guide to help you determine the current price and market value of the collectibles. It will also help with dating the collectibles.

  4. Step 4

Join a group of Disney souvenir collectors, such as one on the Disney Memorabilia site, to share your collecting experiences and interests with other people that also collect similar items.

  5. Step 5

Browse online auctions, antique and collectible stores to find items to add to your collection.

  6. Step 6

Visit local collectible and antique shops in your area, making sure to let the owners know that you collect a certain type of Disneyana. Shop owners will keep that in mind when they are out at auctions, flea markets or visiting other shops.

  7. Step 7

Scour local flea markets, thrift stores and garage sales in your area looking for Disney souvenir collectibles. Often, you might find that special treasure that you did not even know you were looking for to add to your collection.

Tips & Warnings
  • All Disneyana collectibles, including souvenir collectibles, are divided into two main groups. Contemporary Disneyana is generally referred to anything made from 1968 to the present. Vintage Disneyana generally refers to anything made from 1928 to 1967.
  • Disney figurines have a back stamp marking that designates the year that the item was manufactured. For example, a butterfly means that it was manufactured in 2001.
