Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make a list of people you will be creating mugs for. Consider each person's personality or unique interests to personalize the mug. Keep in mind they don't have to be a coffee drinker to enjoy this gift.

  2. Step 2

Buy white mugs to add your own designs. You don't have to be an artist to create a special coffee mug. Use stencils to create designs. Sponge painting is also an option. Paint on a person's name, zodiac sign or favorite saying. Paint a sports, nature or Christmas picture. Use porcelain paints or pens.

  3. Step 3

Consider adding a photo. Instead of painting the mug personalize it by adding a picture. A special dye and ink is used to imprint the photo on the coffee mug. Contact local art and craft shops to find a company that does photo imprints on mugs.

  4. Step 4

Fill the mug with something your friend will enjoy. Consider candy, packets of hot chocolate, tea or soup. Consider filling the coffee mug up with non food items. For example if you have a friend who loves to sew, fill the mug with colored thread, thimbles and a packet of needles.

  5. Step 5

Consider adding a coffee mug accessory. A mug organizer slips over the coffee mug and provides pockets to place things like pens, pencils and scissors in. A coffee mug warmer is another option.

  6. Step 6

Wrap the coffee mug in shrink wrap. Follow the directions on the wrap to create a seal around your mug. Tie a piece of colored ribbon around the top of the shrink wrap.
