Henna tattoos are a unique form of body art that's temporary and lasts about three weeks. The art of henna, also known as Mehndis, has been around the Middle East for at least four thousand years. The popularity of Henna art surged in the Western world of tattoos in the 1990s. To find henna tattoo patterns and safe, experienced henna tattoo artists, there are a variety of sources to consider. Read on to learn how to find henna tattoo patterns.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Choose your favorite symbol, something that inspires you, such as an angel, or something that amuses you, such as a miniature cartoon character, or anything that reflects your personality, vocation, goals, zodiac sign, etc. A good henna artist should be able to sketch something from your description and transfer your choice to a temporary tattoo in the location of your choice.
Step2
Surf around for websites of henna artists. They love to show off their work and post their portfolios, giving you plenty of samples of their work. Some of them sell those patterns and deliver them to you in different formats, including PDF, CD-ROM and paper editions. You may also want to review a few permanent tattoo websites for general pattern ideas.
Step3
Watch videos on YouTube about henna tattoos that will give you some great ideas for patterns and designs. While you can't make copies or get them on a disk, a talented henna artist can take a "mind's eye" snapshot of a design and reproduce a similar version for you.
Step4
Visit public functions featuring henna artists and ask to see their portfolios. Also note the work they're producing on others. Events such as county fairs, benefits, New Age festivals and arts and craft events
offer terrific opportunities to see henna tattoo patterns in the making.

Tips & Warnings

  • There have been reports of allergic reactions to some formulations of henna. Therefore, before becoming a henna tattoo recipient, learn what type henna your artist will use on your skin and verify its safety with a dermatologist.
