Step 1
Find a store that sells kurtas. Visit a store in your area that carries traditional South Asian or Middle Eastern clothing. This allows you to try on some different items and determine the best fit. There are also many online stores that sell imported kurtas. Many of the online stores have size/measuring charts to help you select the best fit.
-
Step 2
Consider your region and climate. If you will wear a kurta in an area that is very hot and humid, a lightweight cotton fabric is the best choice. In colder climates, look for wool or khadi silk, a thick, coarse handspun/handwoven fabric blended with other natural fibers.

Step 3
Choose the right fit. Kurtas are flattering to most body types. Traditionally, a kurta is worn as a loose fitting garment for comfort and ease of movement. Select a garment that does not fit too snug or too loose. It should be comfortable, skimming the contours of the body.

Step 4
Decide which style is best. There are kurtas available for any occasion. There are casual kurtas in cotton, linen or rayon blends. There are also elaborately embroidered, hand beaded silk kurtas to wear to weddings and other formal occasions.
