Review the eligibility checklist for internships at the United Nations Headquarters in New York at Jobs UN. Apply for these internships only if you are currently enrolled in Master's or Ph.D. programs, and you can answer yes to all eligibility questions.

Register and create a Personal History Profile using the instructions on the UN Human Resources website for internships. The PHP is an online resume that can be updated, as necessary.

Locate the UN "Internship Vacancy Announcement" at the Jobs UN site. Select All Vacancies, then Internships to browse vacancies at the UN Headquarters. Apply online for positions that you are qualified for by submitting a cover letter. Answer the eligibility questions to complete your application for each vacancy.

Complete the UN internship application process before the deadline for your proposed internship session. These deadlines occur four months in advance of each scheduled session. You can choose between fall, spring and summer internship sessions.

Arrange financing for your expenses during the internship. The UN estimates that interns need at least $5,000.00 to cover the cost of travel to and from New York, housing and normal living expenses, during the internship session.
