How to Create Save the Date Cards

This gives them time to made travel arrangements and plan their schedules. Because save-the-date cards are less formal than wedding invitations, you can save money on them and make them yourself.

1
Purchase a pack of blank business cards from an office supply store. There is no set size save the date cards should be, so choose the size and style you like best. If you prefer, you can also use postcards.
-
2
Consider buying some sticky-backed magnetic sheets while you are at the office supply store. The magnetic sheets allow you to attach your save the date cards to magnets so your guests can keep your date on their refrigerator.
-
-
3
Open up your word processing program. Adjust the margins to fit the size of the business cards or open a template for the business cards you purchased. Using a template allows you quickly print an entire sheet of business cards at one time. Look for something such as "New Document from Template" in your word processing program.
-
4
Place a small graphic or engagement picture on the card.
-
5
Input the text of the save the date card. Typical information for save-the-date cards include the names of the engaged couple, the date of the wedding and the town they will be married in. It's also a good idea to put "Invitation with further details to follow" so they realize the save-the-date card is not their invitation.
-
6
Print the cards. Once one sheet is printed have someone look it over to make sure all of the information is correct and there are not any errors.
-
7
Make the save-the-date cards magnetic. Cut the magnetic sheets to the size of the cards. Remove the sticky backing and place the magnet onto the cards.
-
8
Mail out the save-the-date cards 4 to 6 months before the date of your wedding. Consider sending out even earlier if you are planning a wedding during a busy time of year such as the holidays, or in a far away place.
