Lacrosse is a completely American sport. Its history extends back to Northern Native Americans. It was called dehuntshigwa'es in Onondaga. A rough translation of this phrase is "men hit a rounded object" This is a fairly accurate description of the sport except that "men also hit each other with big sticks" should be added for the sake of completeness. A description of a lacrosse goalie would be, "man get hit with rounded object and big sticks." It's a tough position.
