Things You'll Need:
- 13 stems of fresh lavender with side shoots stripped off
- 1 yard string, or thin ribbon in purple, lilac or your favorite color
- 40 inches of wider ribbon in the same or coordinating color
- Scissors to trim stems and cut ribbon
-
Step 1
Gather 13 long-stemmed lavender flowers into a bunch. Tie about 40 inches of thin ribbon or string just below the flower heads, leaving one end of the ribbon about 10" long and the other end about 30 inches long. Place a wider ribbon at the base of the flowers, just below the thin ribbon.
-
Step 2
Keep one end of the ribbon in place with one hand and start to weave the rest of the ribbon in a counter clock fashion, under and over the flowered end of the stems. Continue weaving downward. Keep it firm and make neat rows, close to the previous row.
-
Step 3
Fasten the wider ribbon to the stems with thin ribbon or thread. Cut off the ribbon then bind it with needle and thread. Tie a bow around the last row with the left over ribbon. Snip the stalks across to make sure the bottom of the wand is even.
-
Step 4
Tie the ends of the two ribbons together in a bow. Or you can wind the ribbon around the stems in a spiral pattern and tie the ends together. You can also tie the ribbon in a long loop for hanging in closets, on a door, over the stove, or anywhere you'd like a nice, fragrant accent.
-
Step 5
If your wand starts to lose its fragrance, lightly squeeze the top part. Lavender wands should stay fragrant for years, but you can also renew them occasionally with a few drops of lavender essential oil.
