South Carolina, one of America's original 13 colonies, is a state steeped in tales of ghosts and mysterious happenings. If looking for a spooky adventure, take the opportunity to spend a weekend in this beautiful state and discover if the legends are true.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Reserve a room at Charleston's famous haunted bed and breakfast, the Battery Carriage House Inn. Room 10 is where the "gentleman ghost" is sometimes sighted. Others have seen a floating torso ghost at this inn. The Ghosts and Legends of Charleston company offers ghost tours of the city year-round. Go to Queen Street and dine at the haunted Poogan's Porch, where lots of sightings of a woman in black have been reported.

  2. Step 2

Travel to spooky Spartanburg. This town has lots of haunts, including Hell's Gates Cemetery, where sightings of ghostly children and unexplained lights have been reported. Check out Spartanburg's landmark, Foster's Tavern, which is where voices, footsteps and horse hooves on the roof have been heard. Even Converse College has a ghost. He is reportedly an angry spirit who haunts the bell tower.

  3. Step 3

Get away to Pawleys Island for the weekend. A stay at Pelican Inn may lead to a run-in with the 2 resident ghosts, who just happen to be dogs. Even the beach is reported to be haunted by a little boy who drowned when the tide came in. People claim to still hear his voice crying out for help. Right off Highway 17 one will find All Saints Episcopal Church. A spirit known as Alice of the Hermitage has been noticed hanging around the graveyard.
