Exercising with music is a great way to stay in good spirits and keep your energy up during a workout, and the days of lugging around a cassette player or portable CD player are gone. MP3 players are more lightweight, compact, durable and can store hundreds of songs, depending on the size of your MP3 player's hard drive. MP3 players make exercising with music easier than ever.

Step1
Research MP3 players and purchase one that has a good track record of being able to withstand the movement that comes from exercising. Not all MP3 players are created equal, so there are some that are better for exercising than others.
Step2
Load songs onto your MP3 player. Choose songs that will pump you up and help you enjoy your workout. Create separate playlists for various stages of your workout.
Step3
Secure your earbuds in your ears or put your headphones on. Drape the cord down the inside of the front of your shirt if you tend to have trouble preventing your arms from getting tangled up in it while you are working out.
Step4
Use accessories to assist in carrying your MP3 player. Often times, carrying it your hand is not an option if you need your hands to exercise. Strap-on arm bands are popular, as are belt clip-on devices. By having your MP3 player strapped on to your body while you're exercising, you can have your hands free to do other things.

Tips & Warnings

  • Taking part in water exercise with an MP3 player is not out of the question. There are places online that sell water-tight MP3 player cases and waterproof headphones.
