Step 1
Create a list of adventures that your family is interested in. Get the entire family involved in the list creation process. Include great Fall adventures including hiking trips, rafting trips and treasure hunting trips.
-
Step 2
Establish a budget for your adventurous family fall vacation. Rates are going to be the lowest between the day after Labor Day and mid November. This is the pre-holiday travel season. This is a great time of year to travel because you will get more for your money.
-
Step 3
Select a Fall vacation destination. Temperatures are going to be pleasant just about anywhere you want to go to during the early Fall. Popular family adventure destinations during the Fall months of September, October and November include: New England, North Carolina, the Pocconos in Pennsylvania, Montana, Washington, Utah, Nevada and Arizona. These states offer natural wonders, hunting, sports fishing, climbing, rafting, hiking and foliage vacation options.
-
Step 4
Determine what adventures are available at your chosen destination(s). In Montana you can hike through the Bob Marshal Wilderness, go diving in Flathead Lake or raft down a number of different rivers. In North Carolina you will find numerous waterfall adventures and hiking opportunities around the Connestee Falls and Whitewater Falls. In Pennsylvania you can hike and view wildlife in the Poconos Mountains. Finally, if you are interested in a canyon adventure you can plan a road trip that will take you through the canyon country that stretches from Utah's Bryce and Zion National Parks to Arizona's Grand Canyon National Park.
-
Step 5
Talk with a local travel agent or visit an online travel agency like "Global Travel" to learn about package deals, adventure tours and other vacation options. Travel agents can be a valuable asset when planning a multi-faceted vacation, especially if you are traveling to an area that you are unfamiliar with. Using a travel agent won't usually increase your travel expenses and in many cases they can actually save you money by offering you exclusive deals and discounts. Keep your list of adventures and destinations that you are interested in when talking with a travel agent or when using an online travel agency.
-
Step 6
Book your car rentals, air plane tickets and hotels early to save money and to ensure you get what you want. To get the best prices possible book your reservations between one and three months before you plan on leaving on your fall adventure.
-
Step 7
Plan what clothes you will take with you on your family Fall adventure. First consider what clothing your family will need. Fall temperatures fluctuate so you will want to bring layering clothes, lightweight and heavier weight jackets, hiking boots, casual shoes, gloves, hats and other protective wear that is appropriate for your vacation destination. If you plan on going to a warmer climate for your fall adventure then make sure you pack clothing that is appropriate for where you will be going and what you will be doing. Finally, don't forget the sunblock.
-
Step 8
Tie up loose ends at home, work and school. Request time off for your Fall vacation and make sure that your leave has been approved before you start planning. Contact your children's school(s) to inform them that your kids will not be at school during your vacation. Make arrangements for homework to be completed before they leave, or after you get back. At home you will want to find someone to take care of your pets and to check on your house while you are away. The day before you leave on vacation you will want to throw away all perishables that could spoil while you are on vacation, secure all your windows and make sure your alarm company knows you will be away. Provide someone with an itinerary of your vacation and your contact information.
