Weather planning an international trip, buying goods directly from another country or simply comparing the prices of products around the globe, the internet has made finding most exchange rates incredibly simple with the creation and simple use of the currency calculator.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer with internet access

Step1
Use a computer with internet access.
Step2
Locate a currency calculator online by doing a search for "currency calculator." There will be a ton of choices available, choose the one that seems simplest to you.
Step3
Decide which two currencies to find the exchange rate for. If you want to know the exchange rate of the United States to France, you are actually looking to compare the US dollar to the Euro. The currency used in each country can be quickly found by doing a little research into the country.
Step4
Select these two countries and their currencies from the drop down boxes provided on the calculator site. Be careful to put them in the correct order; if you want to find the exchange rate of US dollars into Japanese yen, you must list the currencies in that order.
Step5
Input the amount that you would like to know the conversion rate for. If you want to know how $10 US dollars converts to Japanese yen, then enter "10" into the amount space. By default most currency calculators will give the exchange rate of one unit unless otherwise specified.
Step6
Click "Submit," "Go," "Calculate," "Convert Currency" or the specific tab for the website you are using.
Step7
Understand that the number that has been calculated for you is the value of the first amount you entered, now in terms of the currency you were exchanging it into.

Tips & Warnings

  • Look for a currency calculator that updates the exchange rates frequently to receive the most accurate information.
  • When traveling, credit card companies often give the best exchange rates against the US dollar. This means that although it may be fun to carry around currency from different countries, it is better for you financially to exchange only a small amount of money to use as needed and make most of your purchases on a credit card.
