How to Spot a Dumb Blonde

While considered a stereotype by many, the idea of the dumb blonde has been part of popular culture for decades. Whether you believe they really exist as a group or not, you can always have fun simply trying to spot the genuine dumbbell among a large group of blonde women. Read on to learn more.

1. Listen for high-pitched, hysterical giggling. Blonde women who seem to laugh and giggle uncontrollably for no apparent reason or who find comments to be hysterically funny when other people don't are most likely dumb blondes. In the middle of a serious conversation about politics or economy, a dumb blonde will usually start braying like a donkey.

2. Spot a dumb blonde by the way she dresses. She can be either too provocative (to the point of being inappropriate) or extremely tacky (think leopard prints and towering high heels). Bright colors, lots of accessories and a total lack of style are other ways to spot a dumb blonde.

3. Appreciate the breadth and variety of the breed, which includes surf bettys, farm girls, cheerleaders, exotic dancers and catalog models. When in doubt, look for the faux diamonds glued to the ends of her 3-inch-long nails.

4. Look for a girl who is completely obsessed with the way she looks and dresses. Superficiality is a clear way to spot a dumb blonde. Not all dumb blondes are pretty, but they all try to look attractive, and many of them overdo it.

5. Spot the drink in her hand. A dumb blonde is never as dumb as when she's taking advantage of happy hour with a 24-ounce frozen daiquiri or glass of pink wine. Look for the wine glass, coconut shell or hurricane glass in her manicured hand.

• Watch films featuring dumb blondes to help you identify the type. Most Marilyn Monroe films are great examples. While the actress herself was no dummy, she was often cast in those roles.

• Don't overdo it. Stereotypes can sometimes be funny, but there's a line that will make you seem offensive or rude if you cross it.

• Just because a girl is blonde doesn't mean she's dumb. Have your fun, but make sure you have it with the right person.
