There are several large nudist organizations in North America. These organizations have formed in order to promote pro-nudism issues, educate the public about nudism and elevate nudism's reputation. Some organizations have annual conventions. Conventions are places for the group's agenda and objectives to be discussed, as well as for members to mingle with each other by participating in a variety of fun, informal activities. With just a little research and planning, you, too, can attend a nudity convention. Read on to learn more.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Mingle with the Naked Masses at a Nudity Convention

  1. Step 1

Inquire about membership requirements ahead of time. Some nudist conventions are for members only, while others welcome anyone with a legitimate interest in the nudist lifestyle.

  2. Step 2

Get your registration materials and payment in by the due date. You may not be able to attend the convention if the registration committee doesn't receive your information in time.

  3. Step 3

Make your hotel reservations early. Most conventions are able to arrange discounted rates with area hotels for their attendees. However, you've usually got to request a room well in advance of the convention to qualify for this rate.

  4. Step 4

Sign up for as many special lectures and recreational events as you can. These things are all part of the fun of a nudist convention and excellent venues for meeting and mingling with other attendees.

  5. Step 5

Bring a friend or your significant other with you. It's always easier to attend a convention with someone else, especially if it's your first time.

  6. Step 6

Keep tabs on future nudity conventions by visiting the website Nudist-Resorts.org, which has a list of scheduled events across the country (see Resources below).

  7. Step 7

Explore different types of nudity conventions. Some focus on spiritual well-being, incorporating yoga and other healing practices into the schedule of events. Others are more active and social, offering volleyball tournaments and other team sports. Still others are geared toward finding ways to advance the cause of nudist recreation.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you find out about any etiquette rules before going to the convention. Most nudist groups have iron-clad codes of conduct to ensure everyone feels comfortable at all times. Some common rules include never taking someone's picture without their permission, always sitting on a towel and never engaging in explicit sexual activity in public areas. Violating these rules can get you ejected from the convention.
  • Just because it's a nudity convention doesn't mean you shouldn't pack any clothing. If the event is being held at a hotel, there will be non-nudist guests in the public areas. Plus, you'll need clothes for traveling to and from the convention.

on 6/14/2009 The best places to find out about nudist conventions (not nudity conventions) is at the two national organizations' websites: www.aanr.com and www.naturistsociety.com. Each region of AANR has an annual convention plus there are gatherings regionally for TNS areas.
