How to Make a Numa Numa Parody

Technically speaking, a parody is a funny imitation of another work. Since the Numa Numa video is already a silly, funny film, making a parody will mean looking to either make fun of yourself when making the video or finding an insider's joke by featuring characters or images the spectator will recognize.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Camcorder or photo camera with video
  • Costumes, decorations or animation software
  • Original Numa Numa video

Step1
Practice the original Numa Numa dance. While a parody will include new moves, images and scenery, you must maintain something of the original in order for it to be considered a true parody. Watching the original video a few times will give you a good idea of what the dance entails.
Step2
Choose how you will represent the song. Whether you will parody the original by using costumes or by including animation, decide in advance how technical you will get, and then collect all necessary materials and items to use in the video. You can also make a simpler parody by dancing the Numa Numa dance yourself.
Step3
Use your artistic talents in the making of the video. A parody doesn't necessarily have to be over-the-top funny or silly. Instead, you can use animation, art or choreography to make a video that is completely different from the original, yet still reminds watchers of whatever made the original one a success.
Step4
Enlist the help of a friend to handle the camera. While filming yourself means you get a static image, having a friend handle the filming allows you to incorporate movements, dancing or additional objects into the picture.
Step5
Watch the collection of Numa Numa parody videos at NewGrounds, the website that originally published the Numa Numa dance video (see Resources below). The videos, made by fans of the original, feature all kinds of art, costumes and animation that can make watching the dance a whole new experience.

Tips & Warnings

  • Making an exact copy of the original dance is not considered a parody. While you are required to keep the song and maybe some of the distinctive movements of the original Numa Numa video, you need to create a completely new video in order for it to be considered a parody.
