How to Play Yahoo! Monopoly

Monopoly is unequivocally the most successful, commercial board game in the world, with more than 750 million people in the world having played this game at least once. Charles Darrow created the monopoly game in the 1930s and had it patented in 1935 with original spaces coming from areas in Atlantic City. By the 1990s, Monopoly made its way into computerized versions. Yahoo! has Monopoly available for people to play today.

Things You’ll Need:

• 16MB of free space on your hard drive

Log on to Yahoo! or Download Monopoly

1. Point your web browser to the arcade section of the Yahoo! Games site (see Resources below).
2. Scroll down through the arcade games at Yahoo! to find the Monopoly game you want to play. You may have to click the "All" link to list all of the arcade games for you to scroll.
3. Select the Monopoly version you want to play by clicking the "Go Now" button, name of the game or the icon next to the name.
4. Download the game at Yahoo! to play for free by clicking "Download Game." The trial version allows you to play the game for 60 minutes before it quits working. Ideally, you can play one full game in an hour.
5. Choose to open the installation file after it downloads by selecting the open function in the installation box.
6. Start the game right after the download by leaving the "Start Game" box checked and clicking the button to advance to the game.

7. Get the game started by clicking the "Start Game" button.
8. Click "New Game" to start fresh, or choose one of the other options by clicking it on the start-up screen of Monopoly.
9. Enter your name as a player name. You can enter names for other human players or play against the computer.
10. Select the game token you will use.
11. Click the button to roll the dice, and let the computer do the work of moving your game token to the appropriate space.
12. Choose to buy property or follow the instructions for the space you are occupying. If you don't purchase the property, it may go up for auction.
13. Play the game as you normally would, clicking the buttons to make choices instead of physically handling the money, property cards and other game aspects.
14. Win the game by having assets worth more than everyone else in the game.

Tips & Warnings

• Buy property fast and furious at the start of the game, and upgrade properties as soon as possible instead of stock piling cash.
• Don't lose the Monopoly game you purchase when you change computers. Save the game-installation file to a CD to use on future computers you may own.
