Cribbage, Crib for short, was created by Sir John Suckling during the early 17th century. It is loosely based on a local game called noddy. The cribbage board is used to keep track of the scores during the game, with a game piece for each player moving along the board. Although up to six players can play Cribbage, usually only two people play against each other. Yahoo!! Cribbage allows two or four people (two teams of two) to play the game.

    Play Yahoo!! Cribbage

  1. Step 1

Go to the card games section of Yahoo!! to find Cribbage quickly (see Resources below). Simply click on the icon or Cribbage name to play the game.

  2. Step 2

Enter your Yahoo!! username and password in the boxes provided, or create a new Yahoo!! account that will track all of your Cribbage stats.

  3. Step 3

Bypass the advertisement by clicking the "Click Here to Continue" line on the page.

  4. Step 4

Choose a game room to play in by clicking on the name of the room or click the "Play Now" button to get started sooner.

  5. Step 5

Use the "Join" button to get into a game set up by another player, or click the "Create Table" button to set up your own virtual table.

  6. Step 6

Cut the cards to determine who will deal first. The player with the lowest card (ace is one) wins the deal, and the deal goes to the left for the rest of the game. In Yahoo!! Cribbage, a "D" is next to the name of the dealer.

  7. Step 7

Look over the six cards dealt and discard two cards face down by clicking the two cards, then clicking the "To Crib" button. Discards are the "crib."

  8. Step 8

Cut the deck if you are not the dealer or wait for the appropriate player to cut the deck.

  9. Score at Yahoo!! Cribbage

  10. Step 1

Look at the card flipped over by the dealer after the deck is cut by a non-dealer. When the dealer reveals a jack, two points are scored for the dealer immediately.

  11. Step 2

Place a card face up by clicking the card when it is your turn. The goal is for all of the cards showing to total 31 points. For example, you play a king, opponent plays a nine, you play a six, opponent plays a five and you play an ace to equal 31 points.

  12. Step 3

Score two points each time you cause the total of the cards on the table to equal 31.

  13. Step 4

Press the "go" button if you cannot play a card without taking the table total to more than 31. If the next person can play, she receives one point. If you can play when your opponent presses the go button, you receive one point, unless you make the total 31 to receive two points.

  14. Step 5

Wait for the computer to tabulate the scores for the hand and move the game pieces accordingly.

  15. Step 6

Win the game by scoring 61 or 121 first, depending on the set options for the game table. Winning a match requires winning an agreed upon number of games.

Tips & Warnings
  • Look for a room with lots of players in it to make it easier to find an open game to play.
  • Remember, face cards are worth 10, number cards are worth the face value and aces are worth one.
  • Get bonus points for creating a pair (two), three of a kind (six), four of a kind (12) and runs of cards in numerical order (total the number of cards in the run).
