How to Play With a Hamster

Even though hamsters are known to be nocturnal pets that seem to always be asleep, pet owners do have opportunities to play with their small pet.

Things You’ll Need:

• Hamster toys (store-bought or homemade)

1. When the hamster is awake (don't wake him if he's sleeping!), let him explore under your supervision. Let him crawl and climb on you.
2. Pet your hamster often or he will not be friendly.
3. Buy or make toys for his cage, such as wheels and tunnels. Try hiding treats in the tunnels.
4. Buy a hamster ball that he can run in and explore the reset of the house. Try making your own tunnels and balls to keep it interesting.

Tips & Warnings

• Don't leave your hamster unattended while outside his cage.
• If outside the cage, make sure you don't keep him out for too long since he may want water and/or food.
• Be gentle while playing.
• If the hamster bites, try not to drop it onto the floor. For one, he might get hurt, but also, he may try to run away and bite you again.
