How to Make Yeast Free Pizza Dough

How to Make Yeast Free Pizza Doughthumbnail
Yeast is not an essential ingredient in pizza dough.

Even if you have developed a yeast allergy, you can still enjoy many of your favorite foods, including pizza. Recipes for both yeast-free and gluten-free pizza crusts are readily available, and you'll find they take little time to assemble from scratch. Consider making more dough than you'll need and storing the excess in the freezer for a future meal.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • 1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1 1/2 cup of whole wheat flour
    • 2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1 teaspoons salt
    • 1/4 cup cornmeal
    • 1 1/2 cup water
    • Large mixing bowl
    • Large cookie sheet or baking pan
      • 1

Mix the dry ingredients -- all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, baking powder, cornmeal and salt -- together in a large bowl. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

      • 2

Add the 1 1/2 cup of water to the dry ingredient mixture.

      • 3

Mix the dough with your hands until it reaches a good thick consistency -- at that point, it will easily pull away from the sides of the bowl. Place the dough on your pan or cookie sheet.

      • 4

Flatten the dough out using your hands. Bake the dough for 10 to 15 minutes. Remove it when the crust is a light golden brown color or when 15 minutes are up -- whichever comes first.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Don't overcook your dough. Remember that you will be putting the pizza back in the over with your toppings on it.

    • Add your ingredients of choice to the completed crust: tomato sauce first, then cheese and then your other ingredients, such as pepperoni slices, ham slices, vegetables such as mushrooms, and shredded provolone cheese. Put back into the oven for another 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted.

In your ingredient list, you call for "baking soda", but in the instructions, it says "baking powder" - could you clarify which one should be used? When I was in 7th grade, I made pizza dough from a recipe we got in Home Ec. class. The recipe called for baking powder, and I used baking soda, thinking they were the same thing, and the dough rose about 3 inches!!! We threw it away...
