Be part of the solution. Volunteer with a nonprofit or community agency and provide much needed assistance to fellow Americans in the fields of health, education, the environment or one of the many other AmeriCorps programs. Serve with a State or National Program, be a VISTA or join the National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC). At the end of your service, receive money for college or to pay back student loans. These are just a few of the benefits of joining AmeriCorps.

Tips & Warnings

  • Individual programs may have specific additional requirements regarding education level or age. Be sure to gather as much information as you can about the specific program you wish to apply for.
  • If you apply for the National Civilian Community Corps, you will be expected to carry out your service in California, Colorado, or Maryland. Do not apply for the NCCC program unless you are willing to relocate for one year.
  • Assignments are for ten months or one year and usually require a full-time commitment. Do not assume you will be able to attend college or work part-time while you are serving with AmeriCorps.
