Silk Flower Wall Hanging Silk Flower Wall Hanging

Rate: (0 Ratings)

This project is a quick and easy, but spectacular silk flower arrangement I created for my youngest daughter's wedding 18 years ago, and it still looks as new as it did on her big day. The silk flowers were mounted on white lace (from leftover lace from her wedding gown)and framed in a giant embroidery hoop which had been painted in the Bride's chosen color of dusty rose. You can make one or several to hang on an entryway wall and to use as gifts for for the bride to present to her mother, grandmother, and new mother-in-law at the end of the ceremony. They will treasure them for years.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • One set of very large wooden embroidery hoops for each hanging you plan to make. I used hoops that were approximately 20 inches across, but you can choose a size that fits the rest of your wedding déc
  • Buy enough lace fabric to fit over the hoops you have chosen. One-half yard is a good estimate for most sizes of hoops. Pick white or a color that will fit well with the wedding colors the bride has c
  • A small can of spray paint, and some narrow ribbon for hanging your arrangement, both in the bride's chosen wedding color.
  • An assortment of silk flowers for making the arrangement. You can use the picture provided with this article as a guide, or let your creative side come out.
  • A glue gun with a few glue sticks.

Step1
To start your project, take your embroidery hoop(s) apart and spray them inside and out with the spray paint. Allow them to dry thoroughly.
Step2
Next, stretch lace tightly over the inside hoop and press the other hoop over it so that the lace is firmly anchored. Trim any lace that shows between the hoops on the back side.
Step3
While your glue gun is heating, arrange silk flowers on top of the lace and move them around until you are satisfied with the design.
Step4
Carefully glue the flowers in place and check to make sure they are firmly attached.
Step5
Finally, attach a narrow satin ribbon (that matches the color of the hoop) to the top of the arrangement and finish it with a bow before hanging your creation.
