Things You'll Need:

  • 2 1 ¾ oz/50g balls of yarns…(2 of each color) One pair size 7 short knitting needles Size G/6 crochet hook

Always check your gauge before starting a knitted piece. In this instance, the gauge is: 22 sts and 34 rows = 4” with pattern stitch using #7 needles.

  2. Step 2

Know what your pattern stitch is, so you can check your work throughout. The pattern stitch for this scarf is: *K2 rows, p2 rows, rep from * for pattern stitch.

  3. Step 3

Begin by knitting 3 identical strips, one in each color as follows:
Cast on 14 sts. Work in pat st for 68”. Bind off.

  4. Step 4

Finish your piece. With crochet hook take any color yarn and crochet one row across the top (narrow width) of pieces 1, 2, and 3 while at the same time connecting them. Then sew 1 ½ “ seam between piece 1 and 2, then 2 and 3.

  5. Step 5

Now braid the 3 pieces as if you were braiding hair.

  6. Step 6

When finished braiding, crochet the bottom together same as the top.

  7. Step 7

Take a 3” piece of yarn and use it to tack the three strips down in every place a twist was made (to keep the braid lying flat).

  8. Step 8

    Block your scarf if necessary.
