Cigarette odors can be be difficult or hide or remove, but there are several things that can help. The best part? Most are natural or inexpensive.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1
    vinegar and baking soda

    To hide odor in homes/vehicles:
    Place a bowl of vinegar in room or car to remove cigarette odor from the air. Vinegar can also be used to wipe down walls and dashboards which can absorb odors. A bowl of baking soda will also remove odors from air.
    Sprinkle baking soda in carpets and rugs throughout house and/or vehicle. Allow baking soda to sit for 30 minutes before vacuuming. Odors will be absorbed and removed with the baking soda when you vacuum. This also works on furniture, matresses, and seats in your vehicle.
    Wash bed linens and curtains to remove odor.

  2. Step 2

    Chew fresh parsley or fresh mint to freshen breath. Breath mints and mouth wash can also help to mask cigarette odor.

  3. Step 3
    Febreze
     
    Febreze

    Spray clothing with Febreze to remove odor. Febreze will freshen all types of fabric. Use on curtains, couches, rugs, and mattresses.

  4. Step 4
    Lemon
     
    Lemon

    To remove odor from hands:
    Rub hands with a piece of lemon, lime, or orange to nutrilize odors.
    Wash hands with soap and water, then rinse hands with white vinegar.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be realistic. There is no quick fix to completely remove cigarette odors, these tips will work, but may need to be repeated for complete odor removal.
  • Smoking outside instead of in your home or vehicle will significantly reduce the amount odor to your clothing and hair.
  • There really isn't anyway to remove smoke odor from your hair other than washing it. Keep long hair pulled back while smoking to reduce odor being retained in hair.

on 10/10/2008 I am a property manager for a large apartment community. I have a decent turnover every month of tenants vacating and new tenants moving in. As you can imagine, I have to deal with the odor problem on a regular basis. Cigarette, pet, mold and mildew odors are the most common not to mention ethnic cooking. I was fortunate enough to have a new product recommended to me by one of my maintenance crew. This product is so amazing I want tell the whole world, because I know how frustrating it is to keep trying different products that don't deliver.
