Step 1
Before you consider breeding your cats, the following preliminaries must be in place for the female: vaccinations, worming, and the Felv and FIV blood test to make sure that no diseases will be transmitted during the mating.
-
Step 2
Hormones play a very big part in your ragdolls life and this will affect how you keep them. Besides having his vaccinations and blood tests, the male must be showered with affection and attention during the periods between visiting his proposed female mate. His area, which should be confined due to spraying, should be as pleasant and spacious as possible, with lots of room to exercise and sun himself. This is called 'grooming' and the male must feel interested in life, if he is going to be interested in mating.
-
Step 3
A female cat comes into heat every 3 to 7 weeks from the end of January to November. The female will call out to the male and the male will return her call. These noises can be very disturbing, but it means that the two cats are interested in each other.
-
Step 4
If these steps have been established, the scent of your female ragdoll in heat will attract the male and he is more than happy to mate. Actually, he is in heat much more than the female and would be happier with 3 to 5 females to mate with.
-
Step 5
If, after following these steps, and a lot of patience and waiting, you still find that the cats are not interested in each other, you might assume that one of them is a homosexual animal. Before you laugh, do know that there is documented proof that this is quite common in the animal kingdom, even with cats and dogs.
