Cut an Onion Without Crying
Cut an Onion Without Crying

Love onions but hate cutting them? You and I could be best friends. Here's how to enjoy your onions without looking like you've been filming for the latest horror film (ie black eye makeup streaming down your face)

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Pick out the onion(s) you want to cut.

  2. Step 2

Put those onion(s) in the freezer for 10-15 minutes, unchopped.

  3. Step 3

Take the onion(s) out and cut away! The onion juice will be slightly frozen, so none of it will get anywhere near your eyes.

Tips & Warnings
  • Even if you are running short on time, 5 minutes in the freezer will help!
  • Do not store and place onions in the freezer for prolonged amounts of time. The onion is no good once fully frozen, you'll have to throw it away so don't do it.

on 11/21/2009 I love fresh onions, but some of them are so mean on the eyes, thanks for great tips! I tried them and they worked! I notice that organic onions make cry and make your eyes sting a lot longer for some reason.

on 10/17/2007 Dear friends, crying for cutting onions is good for eyes as it makes the holes near the eye clean and puts a material called as tears to eyes that cleans you eyes too. Try it out and after crying hard and finally finishing with all the hardness of the onion clean eyes with water and you will feel really fresh.
