Play Pranks With Groceries

The kitchen offers the prankster a wide open field for all kinds of impish tricks. There are many different ways to play pranks with basic household materials in ways that are funny and entertaining while not too hard to fix after the joke is over. Try one of these on April Fool's day.

From Quick Guide: April Fool's Day
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Breakfast cereals can be replaced by bland, inedible materials like wood shavings. Watch the confusion when someone pours themselves a bowl of sawdust!

  2. Step 2

Use food coloring. The food coloring won't ruin the food, but it will make people suspicious. Whoever finds the green cheese, purple mayonnaise, etc. won't want to eat it unless they get clued in on the prank.

  3. Step 3

Glue cartons, jars or boxes to a counter top or table. Watch people try to pick up the groceries with no luck. Eventually, they should catch on.

  4. Step 4

Try a little mix-up. Put the contents of one bag, jar or carton into another and watch your housemates try to figure out what happened.

  5. Step 5

Here's a funny one: replace all groceries in the kitchen with empties. Take out all of the non-perishables first and hide them somewhere. You may not want to do the refrigerator unless you have another one for keeping stuff cold. Then set empty containers where the groceries used to be. Your subjects will have a fit when they try to find food! This one can be time-consuming and possibly expensive.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try to find pranks that won't cost too much or cause too much hassle. A prank is funny when it's innocent and harmless. An ill-conceived prank crosses the line into malicious intent and damage to property. Try to be considerate of others when hatching your schemes.
