How to Have Healthy Hands

Your hands are an aspect of your personal appearance that can make a powerful first impression. Don't put yourself at a disadvantage with a pair of dirty mitts. Follow these steps to keep your hands groomed.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start with the nails. Trim them at least once a week, but don't cut down too far. Digging into that soft, untouched area of skin underneath the nail can cause infections. Allow a small strip of white to remain at the top of the nail after a fresh clipping.

  2. Step 2

Make sure your cuticle is there, but unseen. That thin, clear, papery layer, just at the bottom of your nail shouldn't ride up. Push your cuticle down when it is at its most permeable, such as after a hot shower or bath.

  3. Step 3

File your nails. Round the nail to an even smoothness all around.

  4. Step 4

Moisten your hands regularly. Deep crags in your hands make you look older. Apply a small dab of the lotion to your palms and work it into the knuckles and between the individual fingers where dryness likely will occur. Do this once in the morning and repeat before going to bed at night.

  5. Step 5

Eat healthily. Foods rich in keratin will improve the look of your nails. Ingesting gelatin once or twice a week will give your nails a glow. Stay hydrated by drinking 8 glasses of water daily. Don't smoke. Smoking can stain your hands with nicotine and age your hands by drying out and wrinkling the skin.
