How to Unhook a Semi-Trailer
Unhooking a semi-trailer can result in accidents that require costly repairs and injuries that require medical attention. Avoid any mishaps by following these guidelines.

Navigate the semi-trailer in a straight line, making sure you leave enough room to move around the entire semi-trailer. The parking area should be level ground.

Engage the cab's parking break and disable the engine. Extract the keys from the ignition.

Secure the trailer's brakes. Extract the number plate, and then lower the support legs. Check the ground again to make sure it can securely support the trailer and your load.

Disengage the wire and air connections. Place in storage area. Unhook the fifth wheel lock from its secure position.

Start the cab engine and release the park brake. Slowly pull away from the trailer and reduce the cab's air suspension until the cab is clear of the trailer. Park the cab, engage the parking break and extract the keys.

Inspect the semi-trailer on all sides one last time to ensure its secured in place.
