Step 1
Cut large branches into portable sections. If your branch is larger than 6 to 8 feet long and with a diameter greater than 3 to 4 inches, use a chainsaw. For diameters under 3 to 4 inches, cut the branch with a hand saw. Slice the wood into sections that you can carry to a brush pile or stack it for fire wood.
-
Step 2
For branch bits that are too big to mow over, rake them together and pick them up in piles.
-
Step 3
Make a brush pile. Get all the branches, large and small, away from the yard, into a pile somewhere out of the way where they can be disposed.
-
Step 4
Burn what you can. You can get rid of the brush with a bonfire if your local laws permit.
-
Step 5
Use a wood chipper for branches that can't be burned. You can bag the chips for the garbage, use them in your flower garden or donate them to farmers for their stable floors. Rent or buy a chipper that is appropriate for home use.
