After a one-night stand with a co-worker, things may become awkward on the job. You can avoid any weirdness by following these steps on how to treat a co-worker on the morning after and beyond.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Impose some rules. Decide the best way to handle each other at work. Do this before the one-night stand. Take a few moments before your interlude to lay out any concerns.

  2. Step 2

Be professional during work hours. Anything that happens after hours should stay there. Don't bring your personal life to work with you. You have to exist with your co-worker while at work. Remaining professional ensures that you aren't the victim of the latest office gossip.

  3. Step 3

Behave as if nothing has happened. If you don't care how your co-worker feels or how a one night stand can affect your working relationship, then pretend it never happened. Nothing has changed, therefore there is no reason to treat your co-worker differently.

  4. Step 4

Be honest. The very definition of a one night stand means that it only happens once. Let your co-worker know that it was an interlude and that you have no future together except as colleagues.

  5. Step 5

If your coworker insists on taking this further and you don't want to, get on with your life and put some distance between you. Walk away when they come over. Tell your co-worker that you're too busy to talk. Screen phone calls. Switch shifts for a short period to avoid running into him. After awhile your co-worker will move on and you can resume your regular schedule.
