Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Look at your chin. A weak chin can use a fuller beard to hide and balance that area with the other areas of the face. If you have a diamond-shaped face, a full beard will add girth to the jaw and chin. A goatee can make the chin look more dominant. A large chin is minimized by facial hair cropped close to the face.
Step2
Note the dimensions of your face. If your face is square or round, choose a style that slenderizes, grooming it to round off the sharpness of the jaw line. If your face is long, a mustache can cut it off in the middle and add balance.
Step3
Augment your lips with a mustache. A narrow lip can be balanced by a mustache paired with a soul patch. If you have a large area between your nose and your lips, consider a heavy mustache. Thin lips benefit from a thin mustache. To minimize a wide mouth or prominent upper lip, a large divided mustache or handlebar can enhance your looks.
Step4
Note the color and texture of your facial hair. Thin facial hair needs to be clipped rather than allowed to grow into a wispy mustache. A 5 o'clock shadow tends to look better on men with darker facial hair. Blond facial hair tends to soften the face, but dark hair can disguise facial imperfections like a double chin.
Step5
Experiment with your facial hair to get the best look for you. Start the growth. After 3 to 4 weeks, groom your mustache or beard into any shape you want.
