Become CCNA certified. This is a prerequisite to the Cisco Firewall Specialist. Cisco Certified Networking Associate is a single test to show your proficiency in setting up and installing LAN, WAN or dialup access for small businesses. CCNA certification is good for 3 years.

Locate a place to study and practice requirements for the certification tests. There are wide varieties of classes available that will prepare you. Cisco lists available classes on its website. Available also are list of specific material that will be covered in the exam.

Prepare for both tests for the Cisco Firewall Specialist certification. The first test is 642-552 SND Securing Cisco Network Devices Exam. For the second test, you have the option of either 642-523 SNPA Securing Networks with PIX and ASA or 642-522 SNPA Securing Networks with PIX and ASA Exam. These certifications are valid for two years.

Take the certification exams. You do not need to take them at the same time. Both tests are approximately 90 minutes, so prepare accordingly.

Notify others of your new certification. Add it to your resume. Inform your employer or potential employers.

This is a very intensive test. It is recommended that you have hands on training. Find a training class that offers it.
