How to Develop a Graffiti Art Style
All artists have their own individual aesthetic sensibilities and style, and graffiti is no different. Great graffiti artists have their own recognizable style that sets them apart from the rest. But everybody has to start somewhere, and even the best artists started out as novices. If you are new to graffiti art, here are some things you can do that will help you build your own personal style.

1
Immerse yourself. Become familiar with different types of graffiti art styles, investigating famous graffiti artists around the world. Look online for methods of doing graffiti art as well as finding specific examples of well known graffiti artists' work.
-
2
Get inspired. Drive around town and look at the various graffiti tags in the area, or visit local "legal walls." Visit websites with images of graffiti available online, and look to these for inspiration for your own art style (see Resources below).
-
-
3
Practice your own graffiti. Keep a sketch pad with you so you can sketch out your ideas for what designs you might have as they come, and keep a large canvas or piece of wood at home so you can practice your own ideas in paint.
-
4
Work on your technique while you develop your style. Learn how to create fine lines with your spray can while working on your own method of drawing. Graffiti artists all have their own designs, but the best always have skill in how they handle their tools.
-
5
Ask someone you trust what they think about your work. Receiving input can increase your skill by leaps and bounds. Take constructive criticism well because it will help you make your work look its best.
-
6
Change it up. Bring more to your work by using other mediums. Learn to watercolor, sculpt or do photography and you'll bring that new insight and skill to your graffiti. This will help you grow as an artist and keep your art fresh.
