We always seem to have extra curtain rings around the house: plastic and metal, round and pear-shaped, some for window curtains and others for the shower curtain. Regardless of the initial intended use, those spare curtain rings come in handy around the house.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use a lightweight curtain ring in the same manner as a heavier carabiner. Clip keys, sneakers or gloves to a backpack, or a sleeping bag or canteen to a knapsack.

  2. Step 2

Keep curious visiting toddlers out of accessible cabinets. Click a shower curtain ring over the latch to secure it to discourage the little ones, and then remove it when the visitors are gone.

  3. Step 3

Make a hammer holder on a belt. Attach a heavy duty metal shower curtain ring to the belt, then slide the hammer handle down through it to free up both hands.

  4. Step 4

Hang metal pear-shaped shower curtain rings from a hook in the workshop. Use them to sort nuts and washers. Unhook the curtain ring and slide on washers or nuts of similar sizes to locate them easily later on.

  5. Step 5

Put a mitten finder in the mudroom for each child in the house. Drive a nail or hook in the wall and hang a large curtain ring on it. Show a child how to use it to clip his mittens or gloves together each time he comes into the house.
